Mars Zone Translation Center

Mars Zone Translation Center (henceforth referred to as TC) is an integrated language service center focusing on film and television translation. We are committed to providing high quality efficient multi-lingual translation services, and production services such as subtitling.

Founded in 2010, in less than a decade, TC has grown rapidly into a large translation center with another branch in Hong Kong founded in early 2017. The translation team consists of hundreds of both full-time and part-time translators on the roster for various languages. Since its founding, TC has been operating on the principles of punctuality, perfection and quality. They provides all clients with interpretation/translation and post-production services of the highest standards, thus not only earning their consistent approval and trust, but an excellent reputation in the industry.

Currently, TC’s main business is translation of film and television subtitles, dubbing and a wide range of text materials, including but not limited to film and TV, art, law, economics, finance and online content localization. The company provides inter-translation services for Chinese, English, French, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Thai, Spanish and Italian. Previous experience includes working with prestigious enterprises, both international and domestic, such as FOX International, VIACOM, CCTV-6, CCTV-8, CCTV-9, CCTV-10, the British Council, Christie’s, Central Studio of News Reels Production, the National Center for the Performing Arts, China Guardian Auctions, Sohu and Youku. Works translated by TC have been broadcast on multiple channels- television, the Internet, theaters and cinemas.

Business and Works of TC：

◆Film and television translation: Chinese to/from English, French, Spanish, Italian translation for dubbed or subtitled films; We also undertake English translation, proofreading and subtitling of Chinese movies made for the big screen. We provide textual services for the various channels under China Central Television (CCTV) as well as other mainstream network television channels. Our products have been broadcast on various CCTV channels including CCTV 6 (movie channel), CCTV 8 (TV series channel) ,CCTV 9 (documentary channel) and CCTV 10 (science and education channel). The texts we have provided for CCTV have on many occasions been selected for inclusion in several prestigious programs such as the film slots The Best and Sunday Pick.

◆Audio, transcription service, subtitling service: we provide high quality transcription and subtitling service. Our clients cover CCTV, Hunan TV, Liaoning TV and many media outlets.

◆Publicity material: catalogue and introduction for world renowned auction houses, album of Eastern Battlefield: a large-scale of TV series dedicated to the 75th anniversary of WWII, introduction of British schools, Gulf Harbour Country Club website, Beautylish website.

◆Publications: Chinese Red series with 110 books. This Chinese/English bilingual illustrated collection is a panoramic opus of Chinese traditional culture. It was listed as national major publications and funded by the National Press Fund in 2011.

Principal Translators and Proofreaders：

Tu Weizhong (China)

A former employee in the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Tu Weizhong subsequently worked as a tutor in the Beijing Foreign Studies University and as a senior translator for Time Warner. She worked as an author and proofreader of the English-Urdu Dictionary and the first edition of the English-Chinese Dictionary. In 1972, she was a member of the first group of Chinese students to be sent by the MFA to study in Canada. From 1985 onwards, she has focused full time on the translation of films and television programs between Mandarin Chinese and English. Major translation works include Saving Private Ryan, Broken Arrow, Mulan, Tarzan, The 6th Day, A.I., Swordfish, Proof of Life, It's a Wonderful Life etc.

Li Guoqing (China)

Currently director of the English language bureau of the Beijing Review, Li Guoqing has previously served as a private secretary to journalist and author Israel Epstein. His annual translation output is in excess of one million Chinese characters into English.

Ma Huiyun (China)

Having previously served as Senior Officer in the Beijing Representative Office of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, Ma Huiyun took on responsibility for overseas publicity on behalf of Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries following her retirement. In 1972, she was a member of the first group of Chinese students to be sent by the MFA to study in Canada. Her most important film and television translations include the television series Empresses in the Palace and the film Turandot.

Jonathan Papish (American)

Graduated from Northwestern University in America  as a major in the recording of films and television. He came to Nanjing University in China in 2006 to study Chinese and began translation of films and TV series in the same year. Major translation work include Let's Get Married and Marriage Battle. Now living in New York, he is engaged in Chinese and foreign film and TV art exchange.

Kevin Joseph Kennedy II (American)

Graduated from San Diego State University in America as a major in news. He was also the editor of the university’s campus newspaper. He came to China in 2009 and participated in translation of films and TV series. He is an expert in localization and art articles.

Jonathan Wildman (British)

Graduated from Wadham College, Oxford University as a major in Oriental Studies. He came to China in 2015 and worked first in British Embassy in Beijing and now CSOFT International. We have the honor to have him as our freelance consultant. With profound  knowledge of Chinese, he specializes in The translation of Chinese classical Literature.

Adam Sposato (American)

Doctor of Philosophy (Linguistics) in University of Buffalo. Publications include A Grammar of Miao-Yao and Word Order in Miao-Yao. He has profound knowledge in both Chinese and traditional cultures of ethnic minorities in China. He came to China in 2014 and worked as copy writer and translator. Adam is now living in New York.
